At Midwood Pilates & Yoga, we strive to create a welcoming environment where everyone can experience the benefits of mindful movement. Pilates helps students build core strength and develop proper body alignment, flexibility, balance, and fluidity. Students also learn to incorporate breath and mental focus into their practice. Midwood Pilates & Yoga instructors Becky Tin and Kelly Haas enjoy creating sequences that reinforce basic alignment principles while challenging students to move beyond their comfort zones. While Pilates principles supply the foundation, Kelly and Becky incorporate other genres of movement such as Yoga, therapeutic yoga and Tai Chi, adding a creative touch to their sequencing.
Created by Joseph Pilates, the Reformer has been used for decades to help students elongate their spine while fostering core strength, stability and coordination. Exercises can be adapted to assist with rehab from surgery and to accommodate pregnancy, aging joints or disability. Similarly, practices can be intensified on the Reformer to build hard core strength and endurance. Did you know that you can engage in low impact, aerobic jumping while lying on the Reformer? It's fun and energizing!
On Monday mornings at 9:15 am, Kelly and Becky welcome in a group of students for Pilates Circuit training where students rotate between 2 or more stations such as the Reformer, the Springboard, the Chair, the Bodhi Suspension System, and Pilates Mat. And on Wednesdays at 2 pm, Kelly or Becky lead a Buff Bones class. Created by former dancer and Pilates teacher Rebekah Rotstein, NCPT, Buff Bones is a medically-endorsed exercise method for bone and joint health tailored to women in their 40's and older. Buff Bones is a safe practice for people diagnosed with Osteopenia and Osteoporosis. So get yourself added to the Buff Bones list, grab some weights, and join us to get your bones buffed, your heart pumping and your body worked out from head to toe!

Kelly and Becky strive to make Midwood Pilates & Yoga embody our shared mission. We believe that Pilates, Yoga and Yoga Therapy and the like offer benefits for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, or ability.
We tailor workouts to fit student needs and fitness goals. Our clients come from all walks of life--some present with physical restrictions or health conditions that require props and other modifications for therapy or rehab; others seek to build core strength, endurance and flexibility.
We offer private and semi-private sessions; a Circuit training class on Mondays at 9:15 am and a Buff Bones class on Wednesdays at 2 pm. Our primary focus is helping students find optimal alignment and movement patterns so they can enjoy fun and creative sequences in studio and feel the benefits of more easeful movement in their daily lives.
We are lifelong learners of human anatomy and the art of movement, fitness, and wellness. Our students are our very best teachers.
We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and inclusive community at Midwood Pilates & Yoga and are proud to support our clients on their fitness and wellness journeys. Our business has grown primarily through word of mouth bringing many students from the Plaza Midwood neighborhood while others come from all over Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
As a child, Becky started hanging upside down and climbing trees as soon as she could walk. Her passion for using her body led her to pursue a career in gymnastics, competing through high school and then for Cornell University's Big Red Varsity Gymnastics Team. After graduation, Becky coached gymnastics at the Chinatown YMCA and Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. Becky has been an avid Pilates and Yoga practitioner since the mid-1990s. She studied under Melissa Pope at Alternative Fitness Pilates in Charlotte for 20 years. She completed a 200-hr Yoga certification program with Sarah Faircloth in 2011 where she received part of her training from her now partner, Kelly Haas, followed by a 300-hr Balanced Body Mat & Reformer Instructor program with Jenn Gianni at Fusion Pilates in Asheville. Becky is a nationally-certified NCPT Pilates instructor, an Advanced Buff Bones instructor, and is registered with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200.
With much help from her husband, Becky built Midwood Pilates & Yoga in their basement and began a trial run of the business in early 2016. As clientele grew through word of mouth, Becky transitioned from part-time to full-time by 2019. She is grateful to have joined forces with her long-time colleague Kelly Haas in 2023. They continue to learn from each other and enjoy collaborating to develop and grow the business.
